Elroy Balgaard shares the unusual story of how a skull fragment discovered in an abandoned farmhouse led to his involvement in Kensington Runestone research--and eventually to an appearance on the Science Channel series Secrets of the VIking Stone. Through selected clips from the program, he explains why he believes the runestone is authentic and examines evidence that may support its remarkable account.
Elroy will also present his short film, Voyage of the Uffda, which explores the possible route a Norse expedition may have followed rom Duluth to Kensington in 1362.
The presentation includes recent findings from a site near Melby, Minnesota, which may be connected to the ten men reportedly killed on day's journey north of Kensington, as described on the runestone. Elroy will also discuss the Duluth Axe, an artifact discovered along the Lake Superior shoreline that may be linked to the same 14th-century expedition.
Blending personal experience, historical research, intriguing artifacts, and new discoveries, Elroy offers a thought-provoking look at the enduring mystery of the Kennington Runestone.
