Electrifying Minnesota

The miracle of electricity being available at the flick of a switch is illustrated in this exhibit. This is a traveling exhibit made possible by the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund created in 2008.

Imagine what it was like, for the first time, to have electricity available at the flick of a switch - something we take for granted in 2026. This exhibit will explain what makes that miracle possible. You will learn what people thought about electricity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and how we will generate it in years to come. The exhibit includes period silent films, photography and an interactive electromagnetic generator which explain the power of electricity and how it shapes our lives as Minnesotans. Items from our collection will be incorporated into the exhibit.
